Los Bermajales near the ancient town of Alhama de Granada |
The Costa Granada, (or Costa
Tropical, as it is more commonly known, due to it's superb all year
round climate), - runs from La Herradura, (a few miles east of
Nerja, and around 45 minutes from Malaga airport), to Salobreña,
on the road to Granada, and Almeria. This is one of the most
'typically' Spanish coastal regions in Andalucia, with it's quiet coves,
busy beaches, and busting towns. |
San Cristobal is just one of the many,
long sunny and sheltered beaches of the typically Spanish working resort
town of Almuñecar
Bougainvillea is just one of the exotic
flowers of the Costa Tropical, including hibiscus, oleander, jasmine,
orchids and yes even roses! - which bloom all year round. This along
with many usually exotic fruits, such as, avocados, mangos, lemons, limes
and of course olives, for which Spain is famously well known.

Take a leisurely drive up a tarmac road
into the hills above La Herradura and before dropping down to the lovely
and friendly hamlet of La Cerval, stop and park. By turning through
180º, it's possible to see down the coast to Mediteranean resort town of
Torre del Mar in Malaga province,
and, the sometime snow capped mountains
of the Sierra Nevadas in the distant opposite direction.
|
It encompasses, the lovely,
little, typically Spanish town of Almuñecar, with it's long sunny
beaches, fascinating old pueblo quarter with bijou shops and bars, moorish
castle and exotic bird sanctuary. A working town by day, and a
playing town by night. The town market or Mercado Municipal, is a
'must visit', any morning of the week including Saturday. With a
vast range of restaurants offering cuisines from all nationalities - it is
an ideal place to eat out at typically Spanish prices.

Heading further west toward Malaga, and turning inland for
a few miles at Velez Malaga, there is the beautiful man made lake of La
Viñuela, again a popular destination for both tourists and locals

Just imagine . . . .
. . . . . Sunset over the beautiful horseshoe
bay of La Herradura, looking from the hills above the village . . . balmy
Autumn breezes . . . a glass or two of Rioja . . a special friend or
partner . . mmmm
|
A short drive west of La Herradura
lies the very popular resort of Nerja with it's famous caves and Balcon,
from where Dolphins can often be seen playing in the bay.
Nerja, like La Herradura boasts a wide and varied
range of restaurants of all nationalities and tastes. |
Just a few minutes walk from the beach of
La Herradura, with it's chiringuitos, or beach restaurant-bars, lies Las
Palomas on 'La Cerro Gordo'.

The property resides within the highly desirable Las
Palomas boundaries. Along with La Punta de la Mona, and
Carmenes del Mar, Las Palomas is at the top of list of desirable
locations within this unique and largely un-spoilt area of the beautiful
and varied Andalucian Mediteranean coast.
